Mined diamonds, diamond-simulant Cubic Zirconia, or man-made diamonds like Dazzelite, which one is the favorite of gem-lovers? Don’t jump to the answer that obviously the mined, real diamonds are the most desired.

Dazzelite, Diamonds and Cubic Zirconia - a comparison
Let’s compare the three varieties here:
Natural diamond mined from earth is a carbon allotrope. In it, carbon atoms are arranged in a specific manner. It has a hardness of Mohs 10.

Cubic Zirconia (CZ) is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide. It is the Cheapest and Inferior version of Diamond Simulant.CZ is far less in hardness ( between 7-8 Mohs). The cost of CZ is few rupees and it looses its color and luster when it gets exposed to sunlight , water or usage of Hand Creams etc. Dispersion of CZ is 0.060 while that of Diamond is 0.044 . CZ is easily distinguishable by a common eye.

To compete with the diamond and its simulants, a new man-made diamond called Dazzelite Solitaire has recently appeared in jewel market. Dazzelite is a silica carbide jewel. Its properties are similar to diamond’s. Its hardness, 9.2–9.3, is immensely close to that of diamond. But Dazzelite costs just one-tenth of diamond.

It’ s difficult to distinguish a Dazzelite from a mined diamond. Dazzelite vies with diamond in beauty and elegance and Dazzelite lasts forever.
